The entry-level 540P is a high quality Moving Magnet design featuring single-ended "Class A" gain stages and discrete transistors instead of the more common integrated circuits. This gives less cross-talk and interference across the signal path. The 540P employs an active RIAA equalization system. The rear panel benefits from gold plated input connectors to minimize signal path interference and reduce surface degradation. An external power supply comes as standard.

Extending the functionality of Cambridge Audio's critically acclaimed integrated stereo Azur amplifiers and AV receivers it the 640P phono preamp. The 640P features a highly specified moving magnet stage, as well as the higher gain needed for compatibility with high-end Moving Coil (MC) cartridges. This model features single ended "class A" gain stages and use discrete transistors instead of the more common integrated circuits. This gives less crosstalk and interference across the signal path, with both designs delivering high gain and linearity. Tthe 640P uses passive audiophile RIAA eq, the optimum type for phono stages thanks to its complete lack of phase error. The 640P also uses superior amplification circuitry for its MM and MC stages to provide the lowest possible distortion and noise. In addition, this flagship model employs multi-parallel capacitors to achieve exceptional RIAA accuracy of +/- .3dB up to 50 kHz. It also features a defeatable subsonic filter. This combination of technologies offer a hugely dynamic, involving and open sound.

The Evolutionary Peak Cambridge Audio has taken the Azur 840 series to its evolutionary peak with the introduction of the 840E high-end preamplifier. The 840E uses Cambridge Audio's new proprietary Terrapin modules for unprecedented audio fidelity. A customizable front panel display means tone controls can be selected and stored by nameable input. Volume, input and tone are also all controlled by highly sophisticated relay driven circuits. "Top-of-its-Class Sound" The Absolute Sound Magazine honored the Cambridge Audio 840E with a "Product of the Year Award" in its January 2009 issue. "Even the inputs are nameable. Terrapin Technology Rather than use common op-amps for the critical low level gain stages of the 840E, Cambridge Audio decided to design its own audiophile amplifier modules.
